Judas and the Black Messiah (2021) is a historical drama directed by Shaka King. The film tells the true story of Fred Hampton (Daniel Kaluuya), the chairman of the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party, and William O’Neal (LaKeith Stanfield), the FBI informant who betrays him. O’Neal is coerced into infiltrating the Panthers and providing information that leads to Hampton’s tragic assassination in 1969. The film explores themes of betrayal, power, and the systemic oppression of Black activists, while highlighting Hampton’s leadership and his vision for social justice. Kaluuya’s performance earned him an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
